6.7 GHz Test Transmissions: Evaluating Path Loss and Coverage Dynamics for Future Band n104 Spectrum

With the upper 6 GHz band increasingly targeted as an expansion layer for mid-band mobile capacity, practical field data on signal behaviour at these higher frequencies is essential. 3GPP Band n104 (6.425–7.125 GHz) offers substantial contiguous bandwidth, but operating above 6 GHz introduces distinct propagation characteristics that differ from established 3.5 GHz (n78) deployments.

 

To evaluate these characteristics under real world UK conditions, Siroda recently carried out a 6.7 GHz test transmission under an Ofcom Test and Development licence. The data gathered from this 6.7 GHz trial provides insights into the coverage limits, link budgets, and site design considerations that will define Band n104 implementations in the coming years.
