Pre- and Post-Upgrade EMF Surveys for 5G Network Compliance

As mobile networks are upgraded and new 5G equipment is installed, the RF profile of a site can change. EMF surveys provide measured evidence that an installation complies with International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) guidelines and the Control of Electromagnetic Fields at Work (CEMFAW) Regulations.

Pre- and Post-Upgrade Compliance Surveys

Measurements taken before and after an upgrade provide a clear comparison of RF exposure levels:

  • Pre-upgrade baseline surveys: Record existing RF exposure levels before new equipment is installed or activated.
  • Post-upgrade verification surveys: Measure cumulative radio frequency emissions following activation and assess them against the relevant public and occupational exposure limits.

Measurements at Different Heights

RF measurements can be taken wherever they are required on a site:

  • Ground level and public access areas: This can include pedestrian routes, site boundaries and neighbouring properties.
  • Rooftops and elevated locations: Measurements can be carried out on rooftops and other building features, or with a portable pump-up mast. Where additional access is required, a mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) can be used.

Frequency-Selective RF Analysis

Siroda uses a calibrated Narda SRM-3006 Selective Radiation Meter, covering frequencies from 9 kHz to 6 GHz. Unlike a broadband meter, this equipment can separate individual frequency bands and technologies from the surrounding background signals.

This makes it possible to identify how much each source contributes to the overall measured exposure level.
